# Your licence and your account

> What makes ScreenShepherd run, and the separate optional thing that shares your settings.

Two different things live on the **account** tab, and it is worth being clear
which is which.

| | |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Your subscription** | What lets ScreenShepherd run on this Mac. Required. |
| **Your church account** | Shares settings between Macs and keeps your service records. Optional. |

You can pay for ScreenShepherd and never sign in. Most churches do.

## Your subscription

The **subscription** group shows how this Mac stands.

| | |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **activated on this mac** | All good. |
| **free trial** | Your seven days. It says when they end. |
| **renews 12 october** | When the next payment is due. |
| **couldn't check your subscription — running on the last check** | See [If you are offline](#if-you-are-offline) below. |
| **your last payment didn't go through — update your card to keep this working** | Your card was declined. It keeps running. See [Billing](/reference/billing). |

**check again** asks straight away rather than waiting for the next time you
open the app. It is always there.

**manage billing** opens your account on screenshepherd.live, where you can
change your card, move to a different Mac, or cancel. It is there once this Mac
is activated. While ScreenShepherd cannot reach the internet you will see only
**check again** — sort the billing out on another device, or once you are back
online.

<Note>
**A service that is already running is never interrupted.** ScreenShepherd
checks when it opens and at no other time. If something goes wrong with a
payment during a Sunday morning, that Sunday morning is unaffected — you
find out the next time you open it.
</Note>

See [Activating a Mac](/setup/activating) to set one up, and
[Billing](/reference/billing) for what it costs and how to cancel.

## If you are offline

**couldn't check your subscription — running on the last check** means
ScreenShepherd could not reach the internet. It keeps working, and tells you
how many days are left.

It runs for a week this way. Get the Mac onto the internet once inside that
week — any time, not during a service — and the week starts again.

A service runs perfectly well with no network at all. This is only about the
check.

## Your church account

This part is optional, and separate from paying. If your church has not been
given an account, skip it.

Go to the **church account** group, put in your email and password, and press
**sign in**. Once you are in it shows who you are signed in as, your church,
and your role.

**Settings are shared.** Change something on one Mac and your church's other
Macs pick it up next time they open ScreenShepherd. Worth knowing if you have
more than one — a change in one booth turns up in the other.

**Session records go to your church's account.** After a service, never during
one. These records have no lyrics in them. See
[Privacy](/reference/privacy).

You may see **couldn't check your sign-in — you're offline**. Nothing is
wrong, and it does not stop anything working.

## Signing out

**sign out**, in the same group. Everything keeps working — your subscription
is not affected. Settings stop being shared and session records stay on this
Mac.
