# Other options

> How it starts, what the screen does during instrumentals, and the rest of the general tab.

Everything here is on the **general** tab.

## How it starts

| **open at login**        | ScreenShepherd opens when the Mac is switched on. Worth it for a booth Mac — it is ready before the band is. |
| **live in the menu bar** | No icon in the dock. The small bar and the menu bar icon become the app, until you open the full window.     |

## Taking the words off during instrumentals

**take the words off the screen after** *(some seconds)*.

During a long instrumental, when nobody is singing, the lyrics can come off the
screen on their own. They come straight back as soon as someone sings.

Choose **never** to switch it off entirely.

  Tell your operator about this one before their first Sunday. Words
  disappearing from the congregation's screen is alarming if you are not
  expecting it, and it is easy to think something has broken.

## Microphone

Shows whether macOS is letting ScreenShepherd listen.

If it says **access denied**, press **open system settings** and allow
ScreenShepherd under privacy & security.

## Running setup again

**setup** → **run setup again** takes you back through the first-time
walkthrough. Useful when the audio setup changes, or when you are showing
someone new how it works.

## Advanced

**developer console** turns on extra tabs showing a lot of detail about what
ScreenShepherd is doing.

It is there for whoever looks after the install, for setting up and working out
problems. **Leave it off for a Sunday** — it is a lot to look at, and none of
it is anything an operator needs to act on.

## About

At the bottom of the tab:

* **software update** — new versions install on their own, the next time you
  open the app. This button checks straight away if you would rather not wait.
  Nothing downloads while ScreenShepherd is listening.
* **session records** — **show in finder** opens the folder of past services.
* **engine** — **restart the engine** if listening has stopped responding.
