# Shortcut keys

> Start and stop without leaving ProPresenter.

This is worth setting up. It is probably the most useful five minutes you will
spend on ScreenShepherd.

Shortcut keys **work from any app**. That means the person running the service
can stay in ProPresenter the whole time and never go looking for another
window.

## Setting them up

Go to the **general** tab, and find **shortcuts**.

Click the box next to the one you want, then press the keys you want to use.
That is it.

## What you can set

| | |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| **start or stop listening** | One key does both. If you only set one, set this. |
| **next slide** | The same as clicking next in ProPresenter. |
| **previous slide** | |
| **go back to the previous song** | Undoes an automatic song change. |
| **show the pill** | Brings the small bar back to the operator's screen. |
| **open this window** | Opens the full ScreenShepherd window. |

## Choosing keys

Pick combinations nothing else uses. Because these work everywhere, a shortcut
you choose here will stop that same combination working in ProPresenter and
every other app.

Combinations with **control** and **option** in them are usually safe.

<Tip>
Write the two or three you actually use on a card and leave it in the booth.
Whoever is on next week will not have read this page.
